Besides our Portuguese in Brazil learning program we offer a Homestay Program and accommodation in Rio de Janeiro where students have the opportunity to live with carefully selected Brazilian families and can practise their Portuguese and get to know the real Brazilian culture.
The special thing about our organisation is that all of the profits from the tuition fees at Casa Do Caminho Language Centre go directly to support the Casa Do Caminho Orphanage in Xerem. This Orphanage provides shelter, education, cultural activities and excursions, sports and recreation for children, teenagers and young adults at risk.
This Orphanage is situated in a rural area out of Rio, called Xerem where there is an abundance of natural beauty. Students from the Casa Do Caminho Language Centre are invited to participate in many activities we have at the Orphanage and encouraged to meet and interact with the children.
Since we want our students at the Casa Do Caminho Language Centre to have a full and fun experience, we organize a number of excursions and activities to encourage and nuture their learning of the language.
Each month we organize 'Bate Papo' in which a group of Brasilians and English speakers join on a regular basis to converse in both languages and practise what they have learned. It is an opportunity for our students at the Centre to meet native local Brazilians and make some new friendships. Besides the Bate Papo, we also organize many other excursions and activities such as an Educational Favela Tour in Complexo Penha (Alemao), a Walking City Tour, Beach Volley Ball, Festa Do Trabalho, Samba Dancing, Capoiera and our newly added 'Portuguese Speed Dating' which will be sure to encourage all of the single students to learn the Portuguese language!
All of our activities are about having fun and doing something social. You can be sure that while you are studing Portuguese at our Language Centre, you will feel like part of our family!
Oi gente! I chose to study at Casa do Caminho Language Centre to support a good cause while studying the language. Students at this school come from all over the world and have different language backgrounds. I am originaly from Honduras and having Spanish as my native language made it easier for me to understand Portuguese. My teacher was able to adjust class lessons to make it interesting for both Spanish and non-Spanish speakers. In class I learnt not only verb-tense conjugations and conjunctions, but also jargon, idiomatic expressions, pronunciation, and false cognates. She made the class fun and entertaining with use of videos, songs and games.
What I like most about the school is the fact that it is quite international. I meet people from all continents, for example I was in a classroom with Australians, Germans, Dutch people, Columbians...The program is really international and you get to meet nice people.
