At Casa Do Caminho Language School we offer a range of Activities & Excursions. We like to think we are 'one big family' and all of the activities and excursions we have to offer allow our students to get to know eachother. Most of our Activities & Excursions are free and we do not charge, unless there is transport or food involved. It is also a perfect opportunity for our students to practise their Portuguese with eachother or with the children at Casa Do Caminho Orphanage! The ongoing Activities & Excursions at Casa Do Caminho include: BEACH VOLLEYBALL
When: Every Monday night 6pm
Where: Between Post 8 & 9 on Ipanema Beach.
Meet: At the school at 6pm and collect the 'nets.'

BEACH FUTEBOL
When: Every Tuesday night 6.30pm
Where: Between Post 8 & 9 on Ipanema Beach.

CINEMA BRASILIERA
When: Thursday nights 6pm - please check at Reception to see if there is a movie available for that night.

TANJA'S SHITTY (CITY!) TOURS
When: Every Thursday 1pm
Where: Various locations around Rio De Janeiro

Additional information: Rest assured Tanja's Shitty tours are not so shitty afterall! They were simply renamed this because of the play on words! Every Thursday Tanja takes a group of students and their friends on an excursion around Rio. We have discovered places such as Jardim Botanico, Favela Santa Marta, Santa Teresa, Urca and more. There is no cost involved, we simply ask that you pay for your own way there. Be warned...sometimes Tanja likes to make up some interesting facts about the sites you are visiting and one motto she stands by: 'If you get lost, find your own way home!' Tanja's Shitty Tours are a hit with the students at Casa Do Caminho Language School.
COMPLEXO ALEMAO (PENHA) EDUCATIONAL FAVELA TOUR
When: Every second Wednesday at 1pm
Where: Complexo Alemao (Penha).
Meet: At the school at 1pm.
Cost: $50R - this cost is for transport and for the guide Angelo.
Additional Information: Favela Alemao (Penha) was pacified November 2010 and was all over the media. The police raided the Favela as part of an initiative to try and clean up the favelas around Rio, in preparation for The Rio Olympic Games. As a result, a lot of innocent people were killed and families destroyed. We have been working closely with Angelo from Complexo Alemao (Penha) to try and assist the community and educate people about what has happened. This is NOT a commercial 'Favela' tour like the others you hear about around Rio. This tour is designed to inform and educate you about how these people live and what effects the police raid has had. We are working closely with Angelo to try and develop some other initiatives to contribute back to this community. You will truly be inspired by Angelo and touched when you can see first hand what has happened within this community and the steps that himself and others are taking to try and get them back on their feet.
FESTA DO TRABALHO
When: Monthly - dates to be advised on notice board
Where: Casa Do Caminho Orphanage - Xerem.
Meet: At the school
Cost: $50R - this cost covers transport and food
Additional Information: Festa Do Trabalho is a big 'working bee' at The Orphanage. It is an opportunity for the Students at the school to come and meet the children of the Orphanage and other volunteers working in Xerem and help maintain and fix things around the property. It is a day of fun and games too and the night generally ends with a big Churrascaria and a theatre performance by the children. The general maintenance of the property includes: painting, building, cleaning, cooking and gardening. Festa Do Trabalho is always a nice day out and great to be able to contribute and help the Orphanage in ways they need. 
We also have annual events such as The Casa Do Caminho Olympic Games at the Orphanage and Festa Junina. As the dates to these events arise, we will put up notification posters at the school to make our students aware. |
