Funny Experience at Casa Do Caminho: Durex is adhesive tape here! Ah ... when I started working in Casa Do Caminho, I didn't realise this was a famous brand of condoms. Here in Brazil, it's just tape!
Best advice on Brasil: Get to know the circuit of Ipanema beach and the local favelas. They are places of importance but are still a little bit 'touristy.'
Favourite Football team: It is not my favorite but it's my team: FLUMINENSE!
How to be a Carioca - 3 small tips:
There are many types of Caricoa 'locals.' There is no 'standard Carioca.' We are all very different.
In general, here are a few small tips:
1. In Rio, it's not just about being polite to say thank you, act nice and be pleasant. Being polite is like a full time job here! If you have a smile on your face, you are already half way there.
2. Do not think that Rio de Janeiro is limited to the Ipanema beach and the slums. Rio de Janeiro is much more than these places. Try to learn as much as possible not to be a "gringo" forever.
3. When you are out and about drinking, make sure you you always have a 'traveller' with you (a beer to take along the way...)! If you don't walk around with a beer in between bars, you are not a true Carioca!
